Today, Shelly Glover, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced additional support for improvements to Winnipeg’s community infrastructure under the Harper Government’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).
“Our Government is pleased to support improvements to the existing playground at Windsor School,
” said PS Glover. “The investment will have a positive impact on the community by improving local amenities and helping to boost economic activity. Neighborhood families and children will benefit from the new play structure for years to come.
”
The Harper Government’s investment of $73,150 will allow the Louis Riel School Division to upgrade the existing play structure adjacent to Windsor School, which is unsafe and not wheelchair accessible. Under the project, a new play structure will be installed to provide a safe and accessible playground for neighborhood children.
St. Vital City Councillor Brian Mayes was also on hand to announce $25,000 in support from the Community Incentive Grant Program.
“The Louis Riel School Division values inspire potential through collaboration, and this funding completes a true collaboration between government and the staff, students and community of Windsor School,
” said Duane Brothers, Superintendent of Schools for Louis Riel School Division. “A sustainable and accessible outdoor play structure has been anticipated for years, and thanks to this funding, students and the community will have a safe, independent and inclusive environment in which to grow.
”
In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.
Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
