Jason Akearok, born in Hall Beach, Nunavut and now residing in Iqaluit, is a biologist with Environment Canada's Canadian Wildlife Service. He has conducted extensive research into traditional knowledge concerning migratory birds, endangered species and sea ice conditions in several Nunavut communities.
During his professional career, Mr. Akearok has worked as a seabird technician, and following the completion of his Masters of Science, a habitat biologist. He previously provided technical assistance to the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB) in his capacity as an expert on the status of endangered wildlife and ecological conditions within the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement territory.
Mr. Akearok is active in his community and is fluent in Inuktitut.
