Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, September 23, 2013 – Construction of Corner Brook's new water treatment facility is underway. Once complete, the new facility will serve residents and businesses in the City of Corner Brook and surrounding communities.

said the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal. "This project will contribute to the health and well-being of residents, create local jobs and support economic growth in the region."

"This facility represents a true partnership between all three levels of government, and also demonstrates a strong commitment to regional service delivery by communities in the area. Through this partnership, work is now underway to build a world-class treatment facility which will deliver drinking water to the area, and which will be able to serve the needs of residents and businesses in the region."

said Corner Brook Mayor Neville Greeley. "A project of this scale could not be undertaken without the support of the federal and provincial governments as the financial burden on the residents of the city and the neighbouring towns to whom we supply water would be too large. Without the partnership and financial commitment of all three orders of government, this critical project would not be able to move forward."
This new facility, which will serve the people of Corner Brook and the adjacent communities of Massey Drive and Mount Moriah, will use a process combining UV and chlorine treatment with a Dissolved Air Flotation process. These new treatment methods will help ensure access to safe, clean and reliable drinking water throughout Corner Brook and surrounding area.
The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are each contributing up to $12 million toward eligible project costs through the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund (CSIF), which supports large-scale infrastructure projects that strengthen areas vital to sustaining economic growth and environmental sustainability. The City of Corner Brook will cover the remaining costs of the $49.6 million project.
Canada's Economic Action Plan 2013 is delivering a New Building Canada Plan to build roads, bridges, subways, commuter rail, and other public infrastructure in cooperation with provinces, territories, and municipalities. Thanks to the Government of Canada's leadership and our strong economic and financial fundamentals, the Canadian economy has recovered from the global recession better than most other industrialized countries. Canada's economy has created over one million net new jobs since July 2009. The New Building Canada Plan, combined with other federal infrastructure investments, will support Canada's infrastructure advantage, a key enabler of economic growth and job creation.
