Moncton, New Brunswick –Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Gulf Region, announced today two individuals have been fined for violations related to the striped bass recreational fishery. The fines total $772.41.
Gulf Nova Scotia
On August 10, 2013, Bernard Petipas from Arundel, Quebec was fined $572.41 for the retention and possession of four striped bass under the minimum catch size of 55 centimetres.
Eastern New Brunswick
On September 17, 2013, Joseph Valmond Godin from Burnsville, New Brunswick, pleaded guilty to being in possession of a striped bass below the minimum catch size of 55 centimetres. He was imposed a $200 fine.
Both offences occurred during the limited recreational fishery, from August 2 to 11, 2013, where anglers were able to catch and retain a maximum of one striped bass per day and prohibited from possessing more than one striped bass at any given time. Currently, the catch and release striped bass fishery is taking place in the Gulf Region until September 30, 2013, inclusively.
