Hague, Saskatchewan
Residents of the Town of Hague will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to upgrade the Town’s water distribution system. Kelly Block, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Honourable Nancy Heppner, Minister of Central Services and MLA for Martensville, on behalf of the Honourable Jim Reiter, Minister of Government Relations, today joined Mayor Patricia Wagner to announce funding for the project.
“Our Government is committed to helping communities meet their infrastructure needs so that they can continue to grow and thrive,” said Parliamentary Secretary Block. “With today’s announcement, we are demonstrating this commitment and helping to create jobs and growth, while improving the reliability of the water distribution system in the Town of Hague.”
“Saskatchewan continues growing, which creates many new opportunities and it also creates many new challenges. Our government is working hard to meet those challenges to ensure all Saskatchewan people share in the benefits of a growing economy by funding important infrastructure projects such as this one,” said Minister Heppner.
“The Town of Hague is extremely pleased to receive this funding. Our community is developing and with growth brings the requirement to upgrade our infrastructure,” said Mayor Patricia Wagner. “The financial support from the government will help ensure our water system meets the needs of our growing community.”
The Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each investing $239,741 in the project, while the Town will contribute the balance of the eligible project costs, which totals $719,225.
The expansion of the water reservoir and upgrades to the electrical system and backup generator will improve the reliability and efficiency of the water treatment facility and water distribution system in the community. The project will also increase the supply of water for fire fighting. The project is conditionally approved pending an environmental review.
Under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, the Government of Canada has invested in hundreds of important projects across the West with matching contributions from the western provinces. Thousands of Saskatchewan residents are now enjoying the benefits of this significant investment to Canada and Saskatchewan’s public infrastructure. Since 2007, the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan have invested in almost 150 projects for a shared total investment of $210 million under the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component.
