December 23, 2013 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the registration of Establishment 2406, Leslie Leger & Sons Ltd., effective December 20, 2013. The facility processes pickled, spiced and marinated fish and is located in Cap Pelé, New Brunswick.
The CFIA has determined that adequate controls for food safety are not being reliably implemented in the facility on a consistent basis. The facility has failed to meet minimum regulatory standards for equipment, sanitation and hygiene in violation of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company has also failed to fully correct deficiencies previously identified through CFIA inspections.
There is no food recall associated with this suspension. All non-compliant product at this facility is under CFIA detention and control.
Leslie Leger & Sons Ltd. will not be able to resume operations until they have implemented the necessary corrective actions and the CFIA is confident in the facility's capacity to effectively manage food safety risks.
The safety of consumers is the CFIA's top priority and the Agency will work diligently to ensure there is no potential risk to consumers.
