Cutting red tape for Veterans, priority hiring of Veterans and the upcoming review of the New Veterans Charter were just some of the topics covered by the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, earlier today during an address and a question and answer period with members and guests of the Canadian Club of London. The event, part of the Club’s monthly Speaker Series Luncheon, drew a crowd of over 100 participants to the London Convention Centre.
Minister Fantino outlined how Veterans Affairs Canada is streamlining and simplifying its programs to better serve Veterans and their families in accessing the benefits and services they need in more efficient and timely ways. The Minister also highlighted recent changes to his department’s Vocational Rehabilitation programming to assist Veterans in making a successful transition to the civilian workforce.
Minister Fantino seized the opportunity as well to raise awareness of upcoming commemorative milestones taking place in 2014, including the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War, and the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
