The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today hosted a pre-budget consultation with business representatives, community leaders and academics. The roundtable was one of several consultations in communities across the country in which Canadians provide valuable input into Economic Action Plan 2014 deliberations.
“By keeping taxes low and remaining focussed on the economy, our Government is working for a strong and prosperous future in which Canadians benefit from new opportunities and good jobs,” said Minister Flaherty. “We are well on track to balance the budget in 2015 and will do so without raising taxes or reducing transfers to people, provinces and territories.”
In addition to the ongoing series of pre-budget roundtables, which are being hosted by Minister Flaherty, Minister of State (Finance) Kevin Sorenson and Parliamentary Secretary Andrew Saxton, Canadians are also invited to submit their views online.
“We are asking Canadians what concrete actions can be taken to reduce costs for families, solidify our recovery in a fragile and uncertain world, and position Canada to compete and prosper over the long term,” said Minister Flaherty. “We are hearing from Canadians on where they want us to control spending and how to further encourage private sector growth.”
