Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement after learning of bomb attacks in Christian areas of Baghdad that have killed and injured several people:
“On this Christmas day, Laureen and I offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims of the senseless bomb attacks in Iraq. We pray that those injured may have a quick and complete recovery.
“All forms of terrorism are unconscionable and immoral. However, acts of terror on innocent civilians at their place of worship on such a holy day are an abomination.
“We expect the perpetrators to be apprehended and punished to the full extent of the law.
“Canada believes that people of all faiths should have the right to practise their faith in peace, security and harmony. Canada’s Office of Religious Freedom will continue our eternal call for peace, grace and light in some of the darkest places on earth.”
