Toronto - On behalf of the Honorable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Health, Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health, was joined by Canadian Chef Christine Cushing today to demonstrate how to make one of the new recipes from the Government of Canada's Eat Well campaign.
Parliamentary Secretary Eve Adams and Chef Christine Cushing led a cooking session with representatives from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The Speedy Flatbread Pizza that they prepared is one of 12 family-friendly recipes now posted on both the Healthy Canadians and the Heart and Stroke Foundation's websites.
The Government is committed to providing information to Canadians that will help them make healthy food choices. As part of the Eat Well campaign, twelve recipes developed especially for Canadian families by a Canadian Heart and Stroke dietitian were released today.
The cooking demonstration was held at the Forest Hill Loblaw's cooking school, in Toronto, Ontario. Loblaw is a member of the Retail Council of Canada (RCC), a collaborator in the campaign. RCC participating members, including Sobeys, Metro, Costco, Walmart, Federated Co-operatives, Co-op Atlantic and Safeway, are all promoting healthy eating and food skills through such activities as in-store signage, hand-outs, nutritionist-led events, and Facebook and Twitter messages.
