January 29, 2014 – Ottawa, ON
The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today reaffirmed the Harper Government’s commitment to the fight against a modern-day form of slavery while speaking to participants of the National Forum on Human Trafficking.
This two day forum brings together key stakeholders and decision-makers, from various sectors of society, who are engaged in the fight against human trafficking. Participants will identify and focus on areas where continued action is required, as well as measures that will inform federal efforts under the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking.
In June 2012, our Government launched the National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking, which introduced aggressive new initiatives to prevent human trafficking, identify victims, protect the most vulnerable, and prosecute perpetrators, in addition to consolidating ongoing efforts of the federal government to combat human trafficking. The National Action Plan supports organizations providing assistance to victims and builds on our current response of working together with our partners to prevent and combat this disturbing crime.
