February 3, 2014 (Ottawa): The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) suspended the fish product import licence of Aliments Prolimer Inc. effective January 29, 2014. The importing company is located in Candiac, Québec.
The import licence was suspended because on eight occasions between May 2013 and November 2013 Aliments Prolimer Inc. did not fulfill its obligation to notify the CFIA prior to importation or within 48 hours of the reception of imported fish products, as required under paragraph 6(2)(e) of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company may not import fish products into Canada while its import licence is suspended.
There are no food safety issues or product recalls associated with this suspension.
Within 60 days of the suspension the licence holder may request that the CFIA reinstate the licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable corrective measures plan.
Federally registered establishments or companies can have their licences and registrations suspended or cancelled for failing to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations.
