Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Denny Morrison on winning the bronze medal in the men’s 1500m long track speed skating event at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi:
“Canadians are extremely proud to see Denny Morrison standing once again on the podium in Sochi. Congratulations to Mr. Morrison on winning the bronze medal today in the men’s 1500m speed skating event.”
“His exceptional achievements at these Winter Games are the result of tremendous effort and dedication that the entire country admires.”
Denny Morrison was born in Chetwynd, British Columbia, and currently resides in Calgary, Alberta. This is his fourth Olympic medal in his third Olympic Games. Today’s bronze is his second medal of the Sochi Games, after earning the silver medal in the men’s 1000m speed skating event. Previously, he won a gold medal in the men’s team pursuit in Vancouver in 2010, and a silver medal in the men’s team pursuit in Turin in 2006. This is his second individual Olympic medal. Mr. Morrison is also a two-time World Champion (2008, 2012) in the 1500m at the ISU World Single Distances Championships.
