Ottawa, March 18, 2014 – With the 2014 Killam Research Fellowships, Canada’s brightest minds advance research in a wide range of areas such as surveillance, low-cost production of renewable energy, conflicts of interest, as well as key questions in particle physics and genomics.
The Canada Council for the Arts, which administers the Fellowships, today announced that $700,000 was awarded to five successful applicants.

- The Killam Fellowships grant scholars teaching and administrative release so they may pursue independent research. The selected projects are chosen by the national Killam Selection Committee, comprised of 15 eminent scientists and scholars representing a broad range of disciplines.
- The Fellowships support scholars engaged in research projects of outstanding merit and widespread interest in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering and interdisciplinary studies within these fields.
- The Killam Program at the Canada Council for the Arts, inaugurated with a donation by Mrs. Dorothy J. Killam in memory of her husband Izaak Walton Killam, also includes the Killam Prizes. The Prizes were created to honour eminent Canadian scholars and scientists who have made substantial and distinguished contributions to research in industry, government agencies or universities, which has had national and international impact.
