The Hague, Netherlands - 24 March 2014
Prime Minister Stephen Harper met today with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway on the margins of the Nuclear Security Summit. This was the leaders' first meeting.
The discussion began with an exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine, including the need to show strong resolve against Russia's unacceptable and illegal actions, and to continue to support the people of Ukraine. Prime Minister Harper took the time to share his impressions following his visit to Kyiv on March 22.
The leaders also exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in areas such as defence and the arctic, and touched on shared work under the rubric of the Arctic Council which Canada is now chairing as well as at NATO.
Prime Minister Harper and Prime Minister Solberg also discussed maternal, newborn and child health, underlining the importance of maintaining momentum internationally and the fact that Prime Minister Harper is hosting a summit in late May on the issue.
