The Enforcement and Intelligence office of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Southern Ontario Region executed a number of warrants for suspected Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) violations.
During the morning hours of April 2, 2014, in the Chatham, Ontario area, CBSA officers, with the assistance of local law enforcement partners, attended a number of locations and arrested several individuals. Also present were members of the Children’s Aid Society, who assisted with care and custody of children.
All persons arrested under IRPA will be processed according to Canada immigration laws and may be detained.

- As part of their enforcement of the IRPA, CBSA officers are authorized to arrest permanent residents and foreign nationals who have, or who may have, breached the Act.
- Investigating possible violations is essential to maintaining the integrity of Canada’s generous immigration system.
- In accordance with Canadian laws, detainees must present before the Immigration and Refugee Board within set timelines – within the first 48 hours.
