Roxanne James, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, delivered opening remarks yesterday evening at the Intercultural Dialogue Institute’s Greater Toronto Area Public Heroes Awards Ceremony. This event recognizes outstanding members of emergency services within the Greater Toronto Area.
In Budget 2014, our Government is taking action to make additional significant investments to provide emergency services the tools and resources they need to do their jobs.

- Budget 2014 commits:
- $8.1 million to create a DNA-based Missing Persons Index to match DNA from missing persons and unidentified remains to the National DNA Data Bank;
- $91.7 million over five years to enhance the RCMP’s ability to combat contraband tobacco; and
- $200 million over five years to establish a National Disaster Mitigation Program.
