Parliamentary Secretary Keddy Participates in Cook-Off to Launch 2014 Chowder Trail Campaign

The 2014 Chowder Trail was launched today during the Saltscapes East Coast Expo, a popular annual event that showcases some of the best experiences Canada’s East Coast has to offer in food, wellness, music and culture. Using the trademark Chowder Trail Passport as a guide, users will sample their way through the province, receiving a stamp for every chowder they try at the 60 participating restaurants.
During the inaugural chowder cook-off event at Saltscapes Expo, Parliamentary Secretary Gerald Keddy announced that the Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is investing a total of $125,000 to assist Taste of Nova Scotia in enhancing its marketing activities. The project will enable Taste of Nova Scotia to build on several concepts, such as the Chowder Trail, culinary guide, and other promotional activities in order to strengthen the brand internationally promote local businesses, and further raise awareness of Nova Scotia’s culinary economy.
Through the Departments of Agriculture and Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, the Province of Nova Scotia is also contributing $105,000 to support Taste of Nova Scotia’s various marketing activities.

- Taste of Nova Scotia is a non-profit association of over 140 food and beverage producers, processors and restaurant members across the province.
- Member restaurants must have a high percentage of their food selection (60-80%) drawn from Nova Scotia products.
- During the 2013 Chowder Trail, 15,000 passports were printed, guiding people to explore 36 participating restaurants.
- Taste of Nova Scotia is a leader in promoting and strengthening Nova Scotia as a global culinary destination.
