Ottawa – The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today issued the following statement in recognition of Mental Health Week:
"Our government applauds the Canadian Mental Health Association for its work in raising awareness and support for mental health initiatives. Today, we recognize the beginning of Mental Health Week—an annual national event that encourages all Canadians to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on issues relating to mental health.
"Our government has enhanced support for the mental health of Canadian Armed Force (CAF) members and Veterans and would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the many mental health support workers across the country serving our brave men and women.
"We encourage Veterans and CAF members to continue coming forward to seek help, and to do so with the confidence that it will have a positive effect on their well-being. The earlier someone seeks help, the sooner his or her recovery can begin.
"Our government continues to support Mental Health Week and the various initiatives that ease the path to a healthy and productive life for those who sacrificed so much for their country."
