John Williamson, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing in a major harbour project at Blacks Harbour. This project is supported by additional funding from Economic Action Plan 2014.
The harbour project will consist of the construction of a service area, dredging and the installation of steel pipe piles. The project will begin in 2015-2016.
Additional New Brunswick harbour projects will be announced at a later date.
“This important infrastructure project will ensure that Blacks Harbour meets the needs of the commercial fishing and aquaculture industries in the area. It will benefit the local community by creating local job opportunities and supporting economic growth and prosperity.”
Member of Parliament John Williamson
“Small craft harbours are critical for the Canadian fishing industry, an important part of our culture and economy. This investment at Blacks Harbour demonstrates our Government’s commitment to supporting a network of safe and efficient harbours for commercial fisheries and communities across Canada.”
