Design of the new bridge unveiled

Minister Lebel today presented the design for the New bridge for the St. Lawrence — one of the largest infrastructure projects in North America.
The design of the new bridge to replace the Champlain Bridge was the result of a collaborative process. An architectural review panel comprised of architect Poul Ove Jensen from Dissing+Weitling, local firm Provencher Roy, the City of Montréal, Mission Design, Heritage Montréal, the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and the Ordre des architectes du Québec developed the design in collaboration with Arup, the New bridge for the St. Lawrence corridor project engineering consultants.
Qualified proponents invited to participate in the project's Request for Proposals (RFP) stage will have to comply with the architectural requirements presented today.
The Government of Canada also announced that there has been a strong response to the project's Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Six consortia comprised of numerous international and Canadian firms have responded to the RFQ. The three highest scoring qualified respondents will be invited to participate in the RFP which will be launched next month.
Following the competitive process, the Government of Canada will award the contract to the proponent with the lowest cost, technically compliant bid to ensure the best value for Canadian taxpayers. The Government of Canada is committed to having the New Bridge for the St. Lawrence in service in 2018 and to having the remainder of the corridor completed by 2020.
