June 17, 2014 – Toronto, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
The new, 6,500-square-foot Northern Dancer Pavilion was unveiled today by the Canadian Film Centre (CFC). This latest addition to the CFC campus was made possible thanks to federal, provincial, and municipal funding as well as donations from businesses, individuals and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The new Pavilion, named after the legendary Canadian thoroughbred racehorse Northern Dancer, will enhance the organization's ability to deliver multi-disciplinary programs and expand CFC's film, television, digital media, onscreen acting, and music programs. Part of an initiative to modernize the CFC Campus on Windfields Estate and improve its accessibility and functionality, the Pavilion will house the CFC Actors Conservatory and related events, in addition to community events.
Other upgrades to the campus as part of The Windfields Campus Improvement Project involved rehabilitating and upgrading the exterior and interior of the Main House, the Greenhouse, the Gate House, the Cottages, and the Stable, while retaining the commemorative value of this heritage site.
"Our Government is proud to have invested in the Northern Dancer Pavilion, a Canadian landmark which will expand the CFC's film, television, digital media, screen acting and music program activities. We are pleased to have supported the construction of this new Pavilion, as we continue to focus on creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, prosperous communities right here in Toronto."
- John Carmichael, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
"Generous contributions from the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and benevolent philanthropists enabled us to build the Northern Dancer Pavilion and complete the final stage of The Windfields Campus Improvement Project. The pavilion will enhance CFC's ability to deliver multi- disciplinary programs, and grow our contributions to the screen-based entertainment, acting, music, and digital media industries."
