July 24, 2014 – Austin, Manitoba – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Government of Canada is providing $15,600 to the Manitoba Agriculture Museum for the 60th edition of the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede. Funding is provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, which offers Canadians more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament (Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette), announced the funding today while at the event. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“As we prepare to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017, our Government is proud to support activities that commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the Second World War. This was an important chapter in our collective history, and I would like to applaud the Manitoba Agricultural Museum for creating an opportunity for Canadians to honour those who served, to reflect on what we have achieved as a country, and to promote a strong sense of pride among all Canadians.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“I am proud that our Government is investing in the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede. For 60 years, this event has allowed residents and visitors alike to better understand prairie life and how it has evolved over the past century. I am delighted to be part of today’s event.”
—Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament (Dauphin–Swan River–Marquette)
“This year’s edition of the Manitoba Threshermen’s Reunion and Stampede is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for Manitobans to connect with our province’s military heritage. Commemorating the sacrifices and accomplishments of those who served in the Armed Forces ensures their efforts are not forgotten. We thank the federal government for their contribution to the event and the Manitoba Agricultural Museum.”
