July 28, 2014 – Mississauga, Ontario – Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)
Today, Minister Gary Goodyear, accompanied by local MP Stella Ambler, visited the revitalized trails and pedestrian bridge at Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, followed by the newly rehabilitated Don McLean Westacres Outdoor Pool, in Mississauga, Ontario. Both upgraded facilities are now re-opened for public use and have improved accessibility and safety features to enhance the experience for users of all ages and abilities.
Through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation received an investment of $35,938 toward total project costs of $91,870. The funding was used to improve and repair existing trails; remove the old bridge; and install a new pre-fabricated bridge. The Rattray Marsh Conservation Area project is part of the Credit Valley Conservation Foundation's plans to restore the Mississauga shoreline.
Also through the Fund, the City of Mississauga received an investment of $990,000 toward total project costs of more than $4 million. The funding was used to improve and replace several components of the outdoor pool, including the pool tank and filtration system. This project also included the redevelopment of the pool building, and the creation of additional change rooms and public space.
Since 2009, FedDev Ontario has acted as a co-investor and champion for southern Ontario communities, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and social enterprises by strategically investing in projects that help build a strong foundation for long-term economic growth and actively promoting the region and its attributes.
