New interchange and connector on Highway 103 to benefit from government partnership and improve quality of life of residents
July 4, 2014 – Black Point, Nova Scotia – Infrastructure Canada
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Regional Minister for Nova Scotia and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada; Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore—St. Margaret's; and Suzanne Lohnes-Croft, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lunenburg, today announced the first eligible project in Nova Scotia under the New Building Canada Fund.
This project will involve the construction of a new interchange and connector on Highway 103 between Upper Tantallon (Exit 5) and Hubbards (Exit 6) in Ingramport, which will include the construction of the following five structures: a bridge over Highway 103; four ramps forming a "diamond" interchange; a 1.6-km connector road from Highway 103 to Trunk 3; a roundabout at Trunk 3; and a bridge over Kieley Brook.
The New Building Canada Fund is one component of the New Building Canada Plan, the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada's history. This unprecedented commitment will provide $53 billion over the next decade to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure.
Over the next ten years, Nova Scotia will benefit from approximately $1 billion in dedicated federal funding, including more than $426 million under the New Building Canada Fund.
"Our Government's commitment and support for public infrastructure across Canada, has never been stronger than it is today. We are pleased to work with Premier McNeil and the Province of Nova Scotia, so that important infrastructure projects supported under the New Building Canada Plan come to fruition for the benefit of all Nova Scotians. Strengthening our communities and ensuring that infrastructure funding continues to flow in Nova Scotia are paramount, as we focus on creating jobs and promoting growth and prosperity, to better the quality of life of all Canadians.
We are proud to invest in this Highway 103 project, which will focus on improving mobility in the Halifax Regional Municipality, not only increasing safety for all those who use the highway system, but also ensuring that goods make it to market."
