Hugh Segal is the fifth Master of Massey College at the University of Toronto. During his time as a Senator from 2005-2014, Mr. Segal chaired both the committees on Foreign Affairs and Anti-Terrorism.
A graduate in history from the University of Ottawa, he is a former President of the Institute for Research on Public Policy in Montreal and Senior Fellow at both the Queen's School of Policy Studies and School of Business.
He is the Honorary Chair of the Navy League of Canada and a Senior Fellow of the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute in Calgary.
An honorary Captain in the Royal Canadian Navy, Mr. Segal holds honorary doctorates from the RoyalMilitaryCollege and his Alma Mater. He was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2003. Mr. Segal is also a prolific author.
Rick Waugh is former President, CEO & Deputy Chairman of Scotiabank.
Mr. Waugh is Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of York University, and a member the Advisory Council of the Schulich School of Business. He serves on the Board of Directors for TransCanada Corporation and the Horatio Alger Association of Canada. He is Chair of the Advisory Council for The Learning Partnership and serves on the Board of the Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation. He also sits on the External Advisory Council of the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Policy Advisory Committee for the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary.
Mr. Waugh holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba, a Master of Business Administration from YorkUniversity, a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, and Honorary Doctor of Laws degrees from YorkUniversity and AssumptionUniversity.
In 2012, Mr. Waugh was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada for his contributions to strengthening the financial services industry in Canada and abroad. He received the 2011 International Award from the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. In 2009, he received the Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the Foreign Policy Association in New York, and had the Order of Merit conferred upon him by the President of the Dominican Republic for distinguished service to the country. He was awarded the 2008 Award of Merit from B’nai Brith Canada, and the 2007 Merit of Honor, Council of the Americas, for his distinguished contribution to the Americas.
