Chief of the Defence Staff visits 16 Wing Borden, Ontario

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Tom Lawson, earlier today visited 16 Wing of the Royal Canadian Air Force in Borden, Ontario, where he met with Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members at a Town Hall gathering at the Terra Theatre. While in Borden, the CDS also presented the CF Unit Commendation to The Royal Canadian Air Force Academy and the CDS Commendation to a deserving member of the CAF.

In attendance at the Town Hall were members from 16 Wing, Canadian Forces Base Borden/Canadian Forces Support Training Group, Canadian Forces Recruiting Group, and other units located at CFB Borden.

The CF Unit Commendation citation reads: In an era of high operational tempo and a renewed emphasis on leadership, the Air Force Academy exceeded its mandate. Entrusted with the professional development of Air Force non-commissioned members, it displayed great flexibility and unparalleled focus towards mission success. Since 2010, more than 2,500 members have received pertinent training and education, fulfilling the needs of the Air Force. Their past and ongoing achievements will ensure Royal Canadian Air Force mission success well into the 21st century.

The CDS Commendation was awarded to Sergeant Elton Adams of the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy. The citation reads: Since 2011, Master Corporal Adams has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to supporting Canadian Armed Forces members who have experienced physical and mental battlefield injuries. His efforts, dedication and ongoing support to the Department of National Defence, numerous charities and especially the soldiers and their families have been exemplary. By utilizing his musical talents, Master Corporal Adams has brought positive exposure to these issues, promoted esprit de corps amongst the troops and has helped many deal with their personal anguish and find closure.
