Government of Canada announces funding for the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum
August 8, 2014 – Brandon, Manitoba – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Government of Canada is providing $111,994 in funding to the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) for its restoration project that includes the renovation of an original British Commonwealth Air Training Plan hangar constructed in 1940 and the Motor Transport Building. Funding is provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
The funding was announced today by Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament (Brandon–Souris), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“The First and Second World Wars were defining moments in Canada’s history, and we must remember those who sacrificed their lives for our country. The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum’s restoration project will improve the museum’s facilities and allow for better preservation and exhibition of valuable Second World War artifacts. This project is one of many supported by our Government as we approach the 75th anniversary of the Second World War, a milestone on the Road to 2017.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum provides visitors with an opportunity to honour Canada’s airmen and airwomen who died in training and operations during the Second World War. Today’s investment will allow them to continue to tell this important story, and I look forward to visiting once the renovations are complete!”
—Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris
“On behalf of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, I would like to thank the Government of Canada for its support in helping us improve our facility and preserve an important piece of Canadian history. Our museum allows us to tell the story of why the war was fought, how it was won, and the sacrifices that were made so the next generation can appreciate the meaning of freedom.”
—Stephen Hayter, Executive Director, Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum
