The following project is receiving support from the National Crime Prevention Strategy’s Youth Gang Prevention Fund:
The Souls Strong Project, Halifax Regional Municipality, Halifax, $1,308,805 over five years.
This project aims to reduce gang violence in male youth aged 15-20 who are already involved with, or at risk of involvement with gangs in and around the community of North Preston. Specifically, this project aims to reduce the number of youth involved in gun violence by promoting education achievement, developing employment skills, making counselling supports available, and providing positive alternatives to gangs.
The following project is receiving support from the National Crime Prevention Strategy’s Crime Prevention Action Fund:
The Alternative Pathways: Using a Gender-Sensitive Approach to Address Bullying, Delinquency and Criminalization in At-Risk and Justice-Involved Girls and Their Peers Through the Snap Program, Bryony House, Halifax, $3,433,620 over five years.
This project will benefit 112 girls in Halifax, aged 6 to 11, with behavioural challenges, including bullying and aggression, who are at risk of becoming involved with the criminal justice system. It will target the child, the family, their school and community by teaching self-control and problem-solving skills, helping parents learn effective child management strategies, and providing structured recreational activities within the community.
