Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Member of Parliament for Mégantic–L’Érable and Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today joined Ghislain Bolduc, Member of the Quebec National Assembly for Mégantic, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transport and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister responsible for the Estrie region, acting on behalf of Pierre Moreau, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, in taking the opportunity of the official inauguration of the new wastewater treatment plant in the Saint-Samuel-Station district to announce that $2,817,800 in joint government funding was granted to the Municipality of Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton for the project under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund – Quebec (BCF-Q). The municipality also received an additional $437,019 through the Federal Gas Tax Fund and Government of Quebec’s Contribution (TECQ).
“By funding the construction of this water treatment plant in Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton, the Government of Canada is showing that it is committed to putting the kind of conditions in place that promote quality of life and economic development in Canada’s communities,” said Minister Christian Paradis.
“I am very pleased with the assistance our government has granted for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton. Completion of this priority project is an important investment for the future of the municipality, and more particularly for the population in the Saint-Samuel-Station district. This major upgrade in wastewater collection and treatment in the sector will now enable the municipality to reduce the quantity and improve the quality of the wastewater discharged into the environment, thereby contributing to the better health of its citizens,” added Ghislain Bolduc.
