General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff, is pleased to announce additions to this year’s list of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) senior appointments, promotions and retirements. These officers lead the CAF in the defence of Canada’s values and interests, both at home and abroad.
Please find below additional promotions, appointments, and retirements that occurred this year:
- Major-General D.B. Millar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General and will remain in his position as Chief of Military Personnel at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), in Ottawa.
- Colonel S.M. Cadden was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and appointed Director General Land Capability Development / Chief Of Staff Land Strategy, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier-General C.C. Thurrott, who is retiring from service.
- Captain (Navy) J.P.G.M. Charron was promoted to the rank of Commodore and appointed Assistant Chief of Military Personnel, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Commodore L. Bisson who is retiring from service.
- Colonel L.A.B. De Sousa was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and appointed Deputy Commander 2nd Canadian Division, in Montréal, Québec, replacing Brigadier-General P.E.R.S. Hebert who is retiring from service.
- Colonel D.A. Patterson will be promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and appointed Deputy Commander 4th Canadian Division, in Toronto, Ontario, replacing Brigadier-General J.C. Chapman who is retiring from service.
- Brigadier-General N.E. Russell was appointed Strategic J4 for the CAF, at NDHQ, in Ottawa.
- Brigadier-General S. Friday was appointed Director General Air Readiness, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier-General N.E. Russell.
- Colonel P.F.C. Garbutt was promoted to the rank of Brigadier-General and appointed Director General Air Force Development, at NDHQ, in Ottawa, replacing Brigadier-General S.J. Kummel whose retirement was previously announced.
