Ottawa, September 24, 2014 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to recognize Rosh Hashanah:
“Today at sundown, Jewish Canadians will come together to celebrate the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, with their families and friends.
“Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of ten days of repentance known as the Days of Awe. It is both a time of celebration and personal reflection, when Jewish people around the world ruminate on their faith, re-examine the past year, seek forgiveness for their transgressions and make resolutions for the year ahead.
“This time of observance provides all Canadians with an opportunity to learn more about Judaism and to acknowledge the many contributions that the Jewish community – both past and present – has made to our country’s rich and diverse heritage.
“As Minister for Multiculturalism, I wish all those celebrating many blessings and that this New Year brings you health, peace and prosperity.
“Shana Tova u’metukah – May you be inscribed in the Book of Life for a good year.”
