Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on MP Rob Merrifield’s departure from Parliament:
“On behalf of the entire Conservative caucus, I would like to thank Rob Merrifield for his many years of devoted service to his constituents of Yellowhead in the Parliament of Canada, and for his tremendous contributions to our Government. Since his election to the House of Commons, Rob has been a strong voice and advocate for Alberta, and a valued member within our caucus. Rob has tirelessly worked in the service of Canadians in over a decade of public life.
“Rob has made a significant contribution to his riding, his province and his country since his election to Parliament in 2000. He has brought his expertise and insight to several roles and can be proud of his accomplishments while serving as Minister of State (Transport). Rob has also served as chair of the Standing Committee on Health as well as chair of the Standing Committee on International Trade and was given a mandate to work closely with the Canadian Embassy in Washington on issues relevant to Canadian interests. In all of these functions, he has not only earned my highest respect, but the respect of his Parliamentary colleagues as well. Rob’s expertise, insight and exemplary work ethic will certainly be missed as our Government continues to focus on our priorities of creating jobs and economic growth for Canadians.
“Together with all of his friends and colleagues, Laureen and I would like to extend our personal best wishes to Rob in all of his future endeavours, and thank him for all that he has done for his constituents, the Conservative caucus, and all Canadians.”
