October 6, 2014 - Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador for Religious Freedom, today announced he will visit Ukraine from October 6 to 11, 2014. During his visit, Ambassador Bennett will extend Canada’s support to the Ukrainian people and underscore Canada’s interest in and commitment to religious freedom through support to Ukrainian institutions.
“Together with our allies and partners we will continue to speak out with a unified voice in support of the democratic aspirations of the Ukrainian people—and against those who wish to illegally redraw the borders of Europe,” said Ambassador Bennett.
“We stand with the people of Ukraine as they seek to build a peaceful, democratic and prosperous future in which the right to religious freedom is fully enjoyed by all.
‘‘The Ukrainian people continue to show resilience, courage and commitment to building a more pluralist, peaceful, democratic and prosperous future while their country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity continues to be threatened by Russian aggression.’’
Ambassador Bennett will visit Kyiv and Lviv, where he will meet with government officials, religious leaders and civil society leaders.
