October 15, 2014 - New Delhi, India - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today met with Jitendra Singh, India’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and launched a call for proposals for joint research and development projects under the Canada-India Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement.
The call for proposals stems from a new memorandum of understanding between Canada’s Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST). It is aimed at promoting scientific collaboration between Indian and Canadian scientists in the areas of safe and sustainable infrastructure and integrated water management.
From 2007 to 2014, joint funding from Canada and India supported 13 high-quality bilateral research and development projects in priority areas such as sustainable technology, information and communications technology, and biotechnology.
Minister Fast is currently leading a six-day, three-city trade mission to Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh—his third to India since 2011.
