The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, today highlighted recent commercial successes in Japan for the Canadian aerospace industry during his trade mission.
CAE Inc. of Montréal, Quebec, a global leader in providing comprehensive training solutions, entered into a joint venture with Japan Airlines Co. Ltd. (JAL) to open a joint training centre for its pilots, as well as pilots from third-party countries, in Asia. The joint venture represents an ongoing commitment by CAE to JAL; CAE has already supplied 14 flight simulators to JAL.
Bell Helicopter Japan sold a Bell 412EP helicopter made at its facility in Mirabel, Quebec, to Nishi Nippon Airlines (NNA). This was Bell Helicopter Japan’s sixth aircraft sale to NNA, which uses its fleet primarily for power lines construction and maintenance. Bell Helicopter is very active in Japan, with over 300 units currently in use.
Bombardier Aerospace is also active in Japan. The Montréal-based company continues to replace and grow its installed base of CRJ and Q400 aircraft in Japan, currently standing at 69 aircraft. The company is also seeking new opportunities for the CSeries in Japan.
Minister Fast is currently leading his fourth trade mission to Japan in support of Canada’s Global Markets Action Plan (GMAP)—the blueprint for creating jobs and opportunities for Canadians through trade. Under GMAP, Japan is a priority market and aerospace is a priority sector.
