Project possible thanks to federal Gas Tax Fund
November 10, 2014 – London, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Families, residents and swim teams in London and the surrounding area will now benefit from a newly renovated aquatic centre, thanks to investments from the federal and municipal governments.
London's Canada Games Aquatic Centre was built in the 1990's and has hosted over eight million users during this time. After nearly 24 years of operations, the facility's fundamental systems had reached the end of their lifespan and needed to be replaced.
The Centre now boasts a new catwalk, competition lighting, UV water treatment, LED lighting and pool bulkheads as well as upgrades to its heating, cooling and dehumidification systems and hydraulic floor. Aesthetic improvements were also made including painting and tile work.
Through the redesign of existing systems and the purchase of new energy efficient equipment, the Centre's energy usage is expected to decrease by 41%, reducing utility costs and providing London with a more modern, cost-effective and environmentally friendly facility that will welcome visitors of all ages for years to come.
