Chapter 2: Combating Transnational Crime
OTTAWA, November 25, 2014 – Following the tabling of the 2014 fall report of the Auditor General of Canada, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement:
“Initiatives are already underway to address many of the recommendations made by the Auditor General of Canada. I have every confidence that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Development, and the Department of Justice will work to find solutions to the few findings and recommendations that have not yet been addressed, to ensure that we are working as efficiently as possible to combat transnational crime.
Crime has no borders. We live in an increasingly global and interconnected world, and we must look beyond our Canadian borders to where threats originate.
Sharing of information between law enforcement agencies and government departments is essential to keep Canada safe from the globalized threat of organized crime, high-risk sex travelers, terrorism, and other criminal threats to our national security.
The Government of Canada is committed to working closely with our international law enforcement partners to keep Canadians and our allies safe, and will support initiatives that aim at stopping crime before it reaches Canadian borders.”
