Project made possible thanks to partnership between the Government of Canada and Aquatera Utilities Inc.
November 12, 2014 – Grande Prairie, Alberta – Infrastructure Canada
Representatives from the Government of Canada and Aquatera Utilities Inc. were delighted today to showcase the progress being made on the second phase of upgrades to Grande Prairie's wastewater treatment plant.
The project involves the replacement of outdated equipment with new technology, as well as the addition of two new biological nutrient removal bioreactors and two new circular secondary clarifiers, which will enhance the plant's wastewater treatment and processing capacity. In addition, a new power generation system will use energy recovered from the adjacent landfill to power all site facilities. Once completed, the upgraded plant will meet higher treatment requirements and provide greater capacity to accommodate growth in the Grande Prairie region.
"Our Government is pleased to provide funding to upgrade Grande Prairie's wastewater treatment plant. Modern and effective wastewater treatment is essential to ensuring the health and well-being of our communities, in addition to helping protect local aquatic ecosystems. Best of all, through our $53-billion New Building Canada Plan, we are continuing to support infrastructure projects of national, regional and local significance."
- Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River
"We are pleased the wastewater treatment plant upgrade is progressing as planned. The support provided by the Government of Canada reduces the utility rate impact of the project and provides a lasting benefit to all customers served. We want our customers to know the rates they pay are being used effectively to improve sewer services now and well into the future."
- Andy Beal, Chair, Board of Directors, Aquatera Utilities Inc.
