General Tom Lawson hosts a meeting with the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces

Ottawa - Today the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), General Tom Lawson, hosted his counterpart, the Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, General Sverker Göranson, for high-level discussions on military and security issues.

Quick Facts

This visit provided the opportunity to deepen the Canada-Sweden defence relationship and to discuss the value of working together as like-minded nations as well as key Arctic partners.
Discussion topics at the meeting included:

NATO partnerships;
The current situation in Ukraine ;
Arctic cooperation;
The Canadian Armed Forces’ experience with recruiting and reserves.

Canada and Sweden recently engaged closely at the Wales Summit in September 2014, during which opportunities for increased collaboration and interoperability were examined. A number of exercises and programs, including NATO’s Connected Forces Initiative, designed to enhance the military interoperability between Canada, Sweden and several other NATO partners were planned during this Summit.
