For Immediate Release
December 15, 2014 — Latchford, Ontario — Public Works and Government Services Canada
Today, the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing‒Timiskaming, announced that following a fair, open and transparent process, the Government of Canada has awarded a $25.7-million contract to Construction demathieu & bard inc. of Saint‑Jérôme, Quebec, for the replacement of the Latchford Dam in Latchford, Ontario.
The Latchford Dam is located along the Montreal River and is used to control the water levels of Bay Lake. While the dam is structurally safe, it is now nearing the end of its useful life. The replacement project will allow for continued safe and reliable water management.
This project underlines the Government of Canada’s commitment to ensuring important infrastructure assets continue to provide value to taxpayers while helping Canada’s economy. Through important investments in public infrastructure, the government will continue to create jobs across the country and promote economic growth.
Construction will start in spring 2015 and is expected to be completed in late 2016. The current dam will remain open during construction and will be dismantled after the new dam is completed.
