On December 12, 2014, at about 11:45 a.m., a lockdown was put in place at Matsqui Institution, a medium security federal institution, following an inmate assault.
The safety and security of the institutions is the Correctional Service of Canada's (CSC) primary concern. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.
Regularly scheduled visits may be affected. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution directly.
In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
