International Student Recruitment Activities will Promote Post-Secondary Institutions in NS
December 8 – Halifax, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Nova Scotia offers value, variety and a solid reputation of education excellence to a growing number of international students pursuing their studies at one of the province’s institutions of learning. There are financial, academic and cultural benefits associated with welcoming these young minds. The economic returns are the most easily measured. On average, each international student spends approximately $29,000 per year for the duration of their studies.
EduNova, a not-for-profit industry association, works on behalf of its membership to increase the number of international students that come to the province for high school, language and post-secondary education. Members include all of Nova Scotia’s post-secondary educational institutions, language schools and school boards through the Nova Scotia International Student Program, private high schools and select private education providers. The association is dedicated to the economic development and growth of Nova Scotia’s education and training industry through the marketing and promotion of the sector. As well, EduNova supports development of export market opportunities, student recruitment and business, entrepreneurial and management skills development within the sector.
The organization is embarking on a new project to attract and retain international students, including international high school students already living in the province. The project will help maintain Nova Scotia’s position as a quality education and training destination through international market development, outreach, research and familiarization tours.
The Government of Canada is providing a contribution of $198,926 to EduNova through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) to support their 2014-2015 international student recruitment activities.
Quick Facts:
- International student recruitment contributes approximately $285 million from tuition and local expenditures to Nova Scotia's education sector, with a total contribution to the Nova Scotia economy of almost $900 million.
