George Tuccaro is a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation of northern Alberta. He was first appointed  Commissioner of the Northwest Territories on May 12, 2010.
Mr. Tuccaro had a long and distinguished career in public broadcasting where he held a number of positions, including announcer-operator at CBC North in Yellowknife and coordinator of Aboriginal languages Programming at CBC North Radio, as well as recruiting and developing Aboriginal language on-air talent. He is also a recipient of the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Confederation, The Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, and the National Aboriginal Achievement Award in 2006 for Media and Communication.
Mr. Tuccaro also served as Coordinator of the Cultural Industries Program with the Government of the Northwest Territories from 1990-1991. Before he was appointed Commissioner, he was the owner of GLT Communications, a company that specializes in assisting others in setting up post-retirement home-based business.
