FedNor funding of $880,000 will enable Blue Sky Net (BSN) to manage a broadband enhancement project covering four underserved areas in the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts. The enhanced telecommunications infrastructure will help provide communities and business with broadband service of at least 5 Megabits per second. The service will allow local businesses to adopt advanced information and communications technology applications to become more productive and competitive.
An investment of $400,000 will enable BSN to renew its Broadband E-business and Marketing (BEAM) program. Designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises incorporate e-business and web-based solutions into their operations, the BEAM program will support activities such as the implementation of web tools, social media integration for storefront management, customer relationship management and electronic data interchange.
A FedNor contribution of $71,700 to BSN will assist 20 partnering municipalities across Northeastern Ontario to undertake a document digitizing initiative. Specifically, the project will help integrate important municipal documents into geographic information systems (GIS), ensuring that municipal geo-referenced information can be used efficiently in support of economic development activities.
