SCG Industries Limited., a leading environmental company specializing in soil remediation, has purchased equipment that will increase its competitiveness and position the company for new export growth, thanks to investments from the federal and provincial governments.
Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and the Honourable Dr. Ed Doherty, M.D., Minister of Government Services, Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs, Minister responsible for the Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation, Province of New Brunswick, joined SCG Industries officials to make the announcement today.
The project includes the purchase of a Laser Induced Florescence (LIF) high resolution characterization tool, which will allow SCG to gain a greater understanding of contaminated site characteristics. This enhanced knowledge will allow the company to apply the most appropriate technology for remediation projects.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is providing a repayable investment of $86,661 toward this project, while the Government of New Brunswick is providing $35,360.

- The UVOST® (UltraViolet Optical Screening Tool) instrument works on the principle of LIF – Light (Laser or LED) Induced Fluorescence. The UVOST® is an in-situ fluorescence spectrometer that delivers laser energy to the subsurface and records the fluorescence spectral output. This information can be used to delineate oils and other free phase petroleum products in the subsurface.
