For Immediate Release
March 16, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta – Public Works and Government Services Canada
The Honourable Deepak Obhrai, Member of Parliament for Calgary East, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, is pleased to announce that Public Works and Government Services Canada has awarded a contract to Blackline GPS Corp. of Calgary, Alberta under the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP) for their Loner 900 / Loner Bridge System.
Blackline’s Loner 900 / Loner Bridge System monitors the personal safety of those who wear it. It allows employers to track in real time whether their workers are safe, even if they are completely out of sight. The Loner 900 is a portable unit that communicates with the Loner Bridge System at up to a distance of eight kilometres. If a person wearing the Loner 900 is injured in a fall, the Bridge is signalled and it then alerts the personnel who are monitoring that help is needed. What’s unique about this technology is that it works in areas that are beyond the confines of cell phone coverage. In fact, it is built to work anywhere in the world. The innovation will be tested by Correctional Services Canada. The value of this contract is $238,938.
The BCIP helps Canadian businesses get their cutting-edge goods and services from the lab to the marketplace. Successful sales translate into jobs, and jobs lead to prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families. This program is just one of the many ways the Government of Canada supports small and medium businesses across Canada.
