The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced today that on May 26, in Woodstock Provincial Court, MYB Franchise Inc. pleaded guilty to two charges under the paragraphs 153(a) and 153(c) of the Customs Act for making false statements and evasion of duties. As a result, the company was fined $4,000.
In January 2014, the CBSA Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in Fredericton received a referral from the Woodstock Road port of entry regarding a commercial importer suspected of undervaluing commercial goods. The CBSA launched an investigation and evidence collected from the investigation demonstrated that numerous incidents of undervaluing imported goods had occurred over a period of three years.
On July 25, 2014, CID executed a search warrant and on April 14, 2015, the Customs Act charges were laid against the cosmetics business.
