An incident at the North Portal border crossing on June 16 marked the 14th firearm seized by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers in southern Saskatchewan this year, and the eighth at North Portal.
The case began with CBSA officers at North Portal referring a commercial truck and tractor trailer for further examination. While officers were searching the sleeper area of the cab, they found an undeclared prohibited 9mm handgun concealed under a bed mattress.
The CBSA Criminal Investigations Section has since charged Ozzie Harold Green Jr, 46, of North Carolina with failing to report goods, making a false statement, and smuggling under the Customs Act, in addition to two Criminal Code charges. Green Jr is scheduled to make his next court appearance on July 22, 2015 in Regina Provincial Court.

- Canadian residents and non-residents importing firearms and weapons into Canada must declare them and meet all licensing and registration requirements under the Firearms Act.

“CBSA gun seizures highlight the importance of border security at the local level. It is our priority to ensure that undeclared firearms do not make their way into Saskatchewan communities.”
