Confederation Centre of the Arts is a unique institution that showcases both Canadian performing and visual arts and also stands as a national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation. Opened in 1964, this complex commemorates the 1864 Charlottetown Conference and the Founding Fathers of Confederation.
The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (ACOA), joined Confederation Centre of the Arts staff and representatives from the Fathers of Confederation Buildings Trust, which operates as Confederation Centre, to announce federal funding for the purchase of new audio equipment.
The Fathers of Confederation Centre Buildings Trust recently completed upgrades to its main performance stage, the Homburg Theatre, and will now complete the transformation by replacing its aged sound system with new state-of-the-art audio equipment. This will allow the Centre to uphold its renowned reputation as a world-class performance centre.
Quick Facts:
- The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, is supporting this project with a $375,000 contribution towards the purchase of new equipment.
- The Centre has purchased two major pieces of equipment to improve the quality of the productions on stage and the patron experience, these include a new digital sound console and a new P.A. system.
- The Centre offers programming year-round –ranging from cabarets, choral music and lectures, to dance shows, theatre and live concerts--and showcases international, national, regional, provincial, and local community talents. The facility is also home to the world’s longest-running annual musical, Anne of Green Gables - The Musical (TM), a part of The Charlottetown Festival, which attracts spectators from across the country and around the world.
